Ahead of the game, Smith spoke to club journalist Daniel Briggs and admitted that he is honoured to be reaching the milestone.
Speaking via Saddlers.co.uk, Smith, who is now the third longest-serving boss in Walsall's history behind Alan Buckley and Billy Moore, said; “I feel very proud. It shows a level of commitment from the football club and a level of commitment from myself towards a project to try and help the football club climb through the leagues.
"League One is a very tough league to get out of but we’re trying to get into the Championship. Only three Walsall managers have got us into the second tier and I want to be the fourth. We know how hard it’s going to be but I’m pleased with the progress the football club is making.”
