Walsall defender James O'Connor has spoken to the local press ahead of today's Sky Bet League 1 clash with manager-less Doncaster Rovers, and has discussed manager Dean Smith's recent tactical changes, which have seen the side try out several formations so far this season.
Speaking to the Express & Star, James said; “I have really enjoyed all the changes. I have been quite lucky throughout my career because I have played in a lot of different systems and positions.
“I think sometimes you can get bogged down in systems. As long as the lads understand what we are doing and why we are doing it then that’s the key. But the boss’ changes are keeping everyone on their toes because there have been some real shocks.
“There have been times when players have come out the team and they have been in the top two or three players in the game before.
“But if you are getting good performances and results then as a player you almost have to accept it. You can understand it if the team keeping winning and so far the gaffer has got everything right.”
