On Wednesday evening, Walsall Football Club's Under 18s side played host to Burton Albion Under 18s in the first round of this season's Midland Youth Cup competition.

The game, which was played at Chasetown's Scholars Ground, was a competitive affair with both sides having good goal-scoring opportunities, and both goalkeepers being called into action.

It was Neil Woods' young Saddlers who grabbed the opening goal of the game just after the seventy minute mark. The visitors levelled the scores just before full time taking the game into extra time.

Walsall regained the lead near the end of the first half of extra time, and Burton were unable to muster much of a response as Walsall soon grabbed a third goal and advanced to Round 2 of the competition.

The young Saddlers get back to league action on Saturday as they play host to Wrexham in the Football League Youth Alliance North West; the match, which will kick-off at 11:00am, takes place at the Birmingham Football Association's Headquarters on Ray Hall Lane in Great Barr.
