Walsall manager Dean Smith has been handed a fitness boost ahead of Wednesday evening's Capital One Cup Third Round clash with Barclays Premier League champions Chelsea.

Top-scorer Tom Bradshaw, who limped off during the Saddlers' Sky Bet League 1 draw with Peterborough United on Saturday, is understood to have taken part in Monday's recovery sessions as Dean Smith begins to select his side for Wednesday's big match.

Tom was withdrawn from the match after sixty-nine minutes with what was said to be a 'slight' groin strain as the Saddlers looked to extend the lead given to them by a fifty-third minute Romaine Sawyers thunderbolt.

Sadly, following a controversial sending-off and penalty, Michael Bostwick was able to level the scores and secure a point for his then manager-less side.
