Earlier today, Walsall Football Club's Under 18s side played host to Shrewsbury Town Under 18s in the latest Football League Youth Alliance (North West) fixture of the season.
Walsall enjoyed a solid start to the game and had efforts on goal from Maz Kouhyar, who saw a weak header grasped by Shrews goalkeeper Lewis, and Rory Oliver, who had a strong shot saved following a good run down the wing.
There were no goals during a competitive opening half, but as it closed in on the break, Walsall saw some fine work from Kouhyar result in an Oliver header going just wide of goal, and effort from Peters saved, following a good burst of pace, as the two sides went into the break all-square.
The second half was similar to the first, as Shrewsbury switched formation to match the Saddlers in midfield.
The Saddlers had a good opening opportunity from Oliver, who fired straight at the 'keeper, but the Saddlers did open the scoring soon after as Tobias Hayles-Docherty was in the right place to benefit from a padded Peters effort as he slotted home for the reds.
Walsall continued to enjoy good spells on the ball, and saw another effort on goal from Peters, the Shrews did well to defend and scramble the ball away as the Saddlers sought a second goal.
With three minutes of normal time remaining, Neil Woods' side doubled their lead, good play from Oliver as he finds Maz Kouhyar on the edge of the area, Maz evades his marker and slots home to make sure of the three points for his side.
The Shrews did test Walsall 'keeper Dan Jezeph late on but were unable to open their goal-scoring account as the game was bought to an end.
With this result the Saddlers continue their unbeaten start to the season, and the Shrews suffer their second defeat of the 2015/16 campaign.
