Walsall midfielder Sam Mantom, who bagged his first goal in seventeen months as the Saddlers beat Southend United at the weekend, has spoken to the local press and insisted that the Saddlers could mount a Play- Off push this season.

Speaking to the Express & Star, Sam said; “We are only three games in but straight from the first day of pre-season the gaffer set his stall out and everyone has bought into it.

“There is a totally different feel about the club. You can see it in people’s eyes, when we are playing and even in training, there is an added competitiveness.

“People want to win now. When you are scoring more goals people start talking about you more and there is more confidence in the team.

“The play-offs is always the aim. It didn’t quite work out last year when we had a lot of injuries and things which didn’t go in our favour. This is a new era.”
