On Tuesday evening Walsall Football Club played host to local Premier League outfit West Bromwich Albion in the latest pre-season friendly ahead of the 2015/16 campaign, following the game Walsall manager Dean Smith spoke to the local press and confirmed that trialist Liam Wakefield would not be joining the club.
21-year-old Wakefield, who started both the away trip to Rushall Olympic and the home tie with Aston Villa, is a product of the Doncaster Rovers academy and signed pro-terms in 2012.
Liam made just ten first-team appearances for Rovers, and has also enjoyed a loan spell with Bradford Park Avenue, he was offered a six-month deal by the Keepmoat Stadium club but has decided to seek employment elsewhere.
Sadly Liam has not done enough to earn a deal and is to be released to look elsewhere.
Meanwhile, former Leeds United midfielder Zac Thompson has returned to the club for another trial period.
