Following Saturday afternoon's pre-season draw with Aston Villa, Walsall manager Dean Smith spoke to the local press and discussed the current vacancy in the central of defence, as well as discussing trialist Liam Wakefield.
Speaking to the Walsall Advertiser, Smith said; "As you've seen today Liam's only 21 and he's one I'm looking at so I'll have a chat with him. It's still an area we're looking at with Liam here today. But we're hoping another one of the young lads can come through the ranks.
"I still feel we need one more. I think that's a position we need to strengthen. We lost James Chambers obviously; Matt Preston was there before. I feel that we need one more whether it's a progressive one or someone more experienced."
