Earlier today Walsall Football Club played host to Aston Villa in the latest pre-season match ahead of the 2015/16 season. Following the game, which ended one-all, Saddlers manager Dean Smith spoke to the club's official website and praised his side for their performance, insisting that the team is on schedule to start the season with a clean bill of health.
Speaking to Saddlers.co.uk, Smith said; "It was a really good work-out as we knew it would be. Our visitors showed their quality in the first half and we had to chase the ball a lot, but I was pleased with our performance after the break.
"We moved the ball well and when the game opened up, I felt that we were the bigger threat. I thought that we were organised when they broke on us and when we went forward, we carried a threat.
"It was a good game played in a good atmosphere. I am happy with where we're at fitness-wise right now. The players have worked hard and showed a great attitude. The main thing is to have everyone ready for the start of the season and we are on schedule to have that.
"Our younger lads are a year older and have that extra education under their belts, so I expect them to be pushing on, whilst the new signings have all settled in well and have improved us."
