Earlier today, Walsall Football Club confirmed that young goalkeeper Liam Roberts had put pen-to-paper on a new one-year contract at Banks's Stadium.
Following the reveal Liam spoke to the club's official website and discussed his delight at agreeing a new deal.
Speaking to Saddlers.co.uk, Liam said; “I am pleased to sign this new deal and want to keep pushing on. I needed to get that match experience last season and I feel that my performances whilst out on loan helped me to get this new contract.
“The Gaffer monitored me closely and there were some good reports from my performances at Gresley in the second half of the season, which was nice.
“Even though I was out on loan for much of last season, I was still training here day in, day out with Neil Cutler. He has improved me so much both on and off-the-field and instilled a tremendous work ethic into all of the goalkeepers at the club.
“We’re the first on the training pitch and the last off. The work that we do is both enjoyable and beneficial and I am pleased with the progress that I have made over the past couple of years.
“Pre-season is going to be about showing the management what I can do; I’ll be working hard every day so that I am ready to take my chance.
“The maintenance sessions over the summer have been good because whilst you do need that down-time, you also can’t let your body switch off completely and have to maintain a certain level of fitness so that you are ready to go at the start of pre-season training.”
