Several media outlets are today reporting that Burnley, who were recently relegated from the Premier League, have made an undisclosed bid for Nottingham Forest's former Walsall winger Jamie Paterson.

23-year-old, Coventry born Paterson, who made his Walsall breakthrough in 2010, joined Forest for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in excess of £1m when including add-ons, in 2013 following a successful season at Banks's Stadium, and went on to make thirty-nine appearances during his first season in the side.

Last season however, firstly under Stuart Pearce then later Dougie Freedman, Jamie saw his chances limited, as he made just twenty overall appearances for the side.

Part of Paterson's 2013 transfer agreement is believed, though not confirmed, to include a sell-on clause in the region of 10-15% of any future sale, neither Walsall or Nottingham Forest have confirmed the clause, though in a transfer involving a young talent joining a higher placed club such a clause is often included.

If confirmed, this could be a further boost to the Saddlers, who have already confirmed that manager Dean Smith has an increased budget coming off the back of last season's Johnstone's Paint Trophy heroics, which saw the side visit Wembley Stadium for the first time in their history.
