Walsall vice-Captain Paul Downing has spoken to the local press ahead of the 2015/16 campaign and has insisted that the current Saddlers side is far advanced of the one he joined in 2012.
Speaking to the Walsall Advertiser, Paul said; "I think there is evidence of progress although I understand it might be difficult sometimes for the fans to see it.
"When I first came to the club, they were hovering around the relegation zone.
"We always want to strive for more and we are disappointed probably with some of the squads that we have had over the years that we haven't made it into the play-offs.
"But it was fantastic to be part of the first Walsall team that got to Wembley and hopefully with one or two additions in the summer, we can keep progressing and get into the higher positions in the league."
