Walsall midfielder Sam Mantom has spoken to the club's official website ahead of this weeks' return to pre-season training, and has discussed his desire to make the most of the pre-season matches and start the coming season on the front foot.
Speaking to Saddlers.co.uk, Sam said; “This is the most I have ever been looking forward to pre-season training. I have been working closely with Dean Harris throughout the summer doing two or three tough sessions each week at a local gym.
“It’s been hard work, but it’s also been extremely enjoyable and beneficial. The focus has been on building up my power and strength and it’s nice to know that, unlike this time last year, I will walk back into pre-season training on Wednesday on the same platform as everyone else and with no problems.
“That means a lot to me and I feel refreshed and determined. A good pre-season will really set me up for the season ahead and I just can’t wait to get back into the swing of things again.
“The weather will make it tough; running in these conditions will be difficult and we’re certainly going to sweat, but we’re ready for it.
“This is going to be a big year for me and hopefully I can kick-on and put the injury problems of last season well and truly behind me.
“It’s going to be a competitive League One this year. There are some good fixtures to look forward to and with a few new additions to the squad, we can really make our mark.”
