Walsall midfielder Reece Flanagan has spoken to the club's official website as he takes part in the second day of the Saddlers' mid-summer maintenance session, and has discussed his desire to have a strong pre-season and boost his chances of a regular starting place next season.
Speaking to Saddlers.co.uk, Reece said; “It’s good to keep ticking over and I know that the work we do now will help us be ready for the start of pre-season training. The maintenance programme helps our general fitness levels and I have also been making regular visits to the gym.
“But it’s good to also be able to come back to the club amongst the other lads because there is always that extra competitive edge, which naturally makes you work even harder than when you are on your own.
“The key for me is to have a good pre-season. To do that I know that it is important to start putting the work in now.
“I want to show in training and matches that I am worthy of a starting place. The experience of breaking into the team last season will stand me in good stead; it has whetted my appetite and given me the confidence to know what to expect and the kind of level I need to be at.
“It’s going to be a big season for me, but I am looking forward to it.”
