Walsall vice-Captain Paul Downing has spoken to the local press about last season's top-scorer Tom Bradshaw, and has backed the former Shrew to avoid the 'one-season wonder' tag, and also insisted the club must tie him down to a new deal.
Speaking to the Walsall Advertiser, Paul said; "I think it's very important with him having scored the goals he has. His improvement from when he first came in the door last summer to now is massive.
"It would be nice for him to get an extension but I'm sure he will be concentrating on making sure that it isn't a one-season wonder and that he's consistent and gets another 20 goals.
"I'm sure he will want to sort out a few niggles that he's had and make sure that he's a bit more robust and playing week in, week out.
"People might doubt him but I think he will be determined to prove he can keep scoring goals.
"He's always a confident lad and he believes that if he gets one or two chances a game that he's going to score.
"I'm sure we will be relying on him to score goals again but it's important that we do support him a bit more than we did last year. If we score more goals I have no doubt we will be higher in the league."
