Walsall manager Dean Smith has spoken to the local press as he continues his preparations for the 2015/16 Football League campaign, and has hailed club captain Adam Chambers, comparing the 34-year-old to former Liverpool skipper, Steven Gerrard.
Speaking to the Express & Star, Smith said; “The advice I gave him was go and be yourself. You have to be yourself, I’m myself as a manager and Adam is a leader by example.
“I did a study while doing my Pro Licence about choosing a captain. The three I chose to talk about were William Gallas, John Terry and Steven Gerrard. I would put Adam in the Gerrard category, where he goes out and plays as well as he can and leads by example.
“I have always said when you choose a captain, you have to be sure it is someone who will be in the team every week. If Adam is fit and playing to his best, he is certainly one you want in the team.”
