Fellow Sky Bet League 1 outfit Bury are understood to have joined Walsall in the race to sign Plymouth Argyle forward Lewis Alessandra.

26-year-old Alessandra is said to be stalling on a new one-year deal with the Pilgrims following their Sky Bet League Two Play Off Semi Final defeat to Wycombe Wanderers, and is targeting a move closer to his family who are based in the North West.

Heywood-born Alessandra is a product of the Oldham Athletic youth system, he signed pro-terms with the Latics in 2007, and went on to make over seventy first-team appearances for the side before joining Morecambe on a free transfer in 2011.

He went on to make over eighty first-team appearances for Morecambe before departing for Plymouth Argyle in 2013.

Alessandra signed a two-year contract with this season's League 2 play-off semi-finalists Argyle in June 2013 and made his debut in the club's first game of the new season away to Southend United. In total he scored 12 goals in 49 games in all competitions in his first season with the side.

Lewis, who has developed a partnership with former Saddler Reuben Reid, has made over eighty first team appearances for the Pilgrims and notched over twenty goals.
