Walsall midfielder Sam Mantom, who missed the majority of the 2014/15 season through injury, has today spoken to the club's official website to give an update on his condition and discuss what he has planned for the summer break.
Speaking to Saddlers.co.uk, Sam said; “I’ve had two weeks of pure rest and then next week I will start on an intense power programme. I’ll be working closely with Jon Whitney and strength and conditioning coach, Dean Harris, on those areas that are in particular need of attention to allow me to be one step ahead when we report back for pre-season training at the beginning of July.
“Both Jon and Dean have a tremendous amount of knowledge in this field and it is important for me to be able to tap into that to ensure that I come back in the right shape and frame of mind.
“I gave it my all to get back into action last season and I am pleased with where I’m at right now. Yes, there were dark days, but I have come through it and I am stronger for the experience.
“I know that by knuckling down and working hard now, it will give me the best possible chance to start the season strongly as I did a couple of years ago.
“When you miss pre-season, it is always difficult to catch up, so it is key for me to have a good, productive summer to set me up for the campaign ahead.”
