Walsall Football Club midfielder Sam Mantom has spoken to the local press as he begins his summer break, and has discussed fellow West Bromwich Albion alumni Romaine Sawyers, insisting much of the attacking-midfielder's work goes unnoticed.
Speaking to the Express & Star, Sam said; “If anything, I understand him the most. I have played with him since the age of 12, so I have seen him develop and come through.
“I understand how he works, day in and day out and how he lives his life. I understand why the gaffer said what he did, because some of his best work, others don’t see it.
“If he is running someone off, it creates space for someone else and if they score, the praise goes down to the goalscorer and not Romaine.
“He does a lot of that work and we are very grateful we have him at Walsall. He kept saying ‘I have to score more goals, get into positions and be more selfish."
