SMITH LOOKS AHEAD TO DONCASTER ROVERS CLASH

Walsall manager Dean Smith has spoken to the club's official website ahead of this weekend's Sky Bet League 1 clash with Doncaster Rovers, and has insisted that if the team performs to the standard he knows it is capable of, then they will give themselves every chance of moving up the table.

Speaking to Saddlers.co.uk, Smith said; "I was pleased to see Ashley Grimes get off the mark in the last game. Tom’s absence will give others the chances to show what they can do and Ashley did himself no harm with that goal.

"I couldn’t fault the effort of the lads against Gillingham; the only thing that was missing was the three points at the end.

"We know that we have to start winning matches again and we’ll be looking to continue our impressive away record at Doncaster on Saturday.

"A win would take us about them, yet a defeat and we are six points adrift, that’s how close this League is.

"I watched them draw at Chesterfield last weekend. It was a tight game on that occasion and I am expecting the same this time around.

"Andy Butler found the net in the last game, which usually means it will be a while until his next goal comes along! He’s a good player and a good lad; it will be nice to see him on Saturday, but friendship will go out of the window for 90 minutes.

"There are a lot of games coming up and if we perform to the standards we know that we are capable of, we will give ourselves every chance.

"It’s a case of taking each game at a time."
