Walsall Football Club have teamed up with renowned fashion designer, and local-lad, Luke Roper, ahead of The Saddlers’ first-ever trip to Wembley.
The have announced that Luke 1977 will be the official suit suppliers for our maiden trip to Wembley Stadium in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
The Saddlers go head-to-head with Bristol City in the Final of the competition on Sunday, 22nd March - the first time we will have appeared at ‘the Home of Football’ in our 127-year history.
Luke 1977 men's clothing is an independently-owned design led British fashion brand with a tight distribution policy.
The company was co-founded by Luke Roper, who grew up in Walsall Wood. The 37 year-old attended Shire Oak Academy (formerly Shire Oak School) and went to Walsall College to study fashion and textiles before undertaking a degree at the renowned Central Saint Martin’s London.
Luke 1977 will supply The Saddlers’ entire matchday squad and management team with suits for the big occasion, much to the delight of Saddlers’ boss, Dean Smith.
Speaking to Saddlers.co.uk, Smith said; “We are over the moon. We could not have asked for a better brand to be supplying our suits. They are a globally renowned business but, more importantly to us, their roots are right here in Walsall.
“Luke Roper is the epitome of the old phrase ‘local lad done good’ and we are delighted that he has wanted to get involved in this project. It’s a great gesture.”
Luke added; “I was thrilled when The Saddlers made the Final. I am equally honoured to support Dean and the team by supplying the suits for the big day!
“I'm sure it will be the start of an ongoing relationship with my hometown club.
“There is a real buzz about the town in anticipation of what I'm sure be a memorable Final.”
