PAPER TALK: O'CONNOR TARGETS WINNING STREAK

Walsall Football Club right-sided defender James O'Connor has spoken to the press ahead of this weekend's Sky Bet League 1 clash with Port Vale, and has insisted that every game is a six-pointer, and if the Saddlers can string a few wins together they will be "right up there".

Speaking to the Walsall Advertiser, James said; "Every time you play someone at the moment it's like a six-pointer, that's what it's like in this league. If you can string three or four wins together, I've always said you will be right up there.

"That's two now and hopefully we'll build on it and get another one on Saturday against Port Vale.

"I don't think you can underestimate how big back-to-back wins are in this league. I don't know how many times we've done it this season but I'm guessing it's not more than two or three max.

"Now we've got the chance to hopefully make it three wins on the spin and if we can do that then the season is looking really bright. But you will have 10-12 teams in the same position, all saying exactly the same thing.

"The key is to keep picking up points – if you are not winning, get a draw. We've had a lot of home losses and then away wins. If you can put the two together then you will definitely be right up there.

"Then you string four or five wins together out of nowhere and you realise you are up there and you've got a real chance and that's when the belief and excitement really starts to kick in.

"When you are coming in from the outside maybe you don't realise the quality that is here – and maybe our own players don't realise yet, so we want to fulfil that potential."
