Walsall Football Club manager Dean Smith has spoken to the club's official website following Tuesday evening's Johnstone's Paint Trophy clash with Preston North End, where his Saddlers side booked their place in the competitions Wembley final, and has spoken of his pride at becoming the first manager to take the club to our national stadium.

Speaking to Saddlers.co.uk Smith said; "It's extremely emotional for me and so many people. At the end I looked up to my family and then saw Richard O'Kelly who was choked and it makes you realise how much this means to so many people.

"It's an unbelievable achievment and well deserved by the lads.

"I felt that we were never in any real danger of losing the game tonight; it was a good defensive display from us and the best 0-0 draw of my life!

"We know that Preston are a very good team but I always fancied us; as I say, defensively we were very organised and we worked so hard with and without the ball.

"It's been a tough run in this competition, so to be stood here having reached Wembley is fantastic.

"You only have to look around to see how much it means to everyone associated to this club, from the Chairman down and I am so proud to be the first manager to take this club to Wembley.

"Hopefully this will be a catalyst and we can start to climb the table because we have proved what a good team we can be."
