As Walsall Football Club prepare for their Johnstone's Paint Trophy Northern Area Final Second Leg clash with Preston North End a week on Tuesday, the management have arranged two behind-closed-doors friendlies designed to keep the team ticking over.

Dean Smith's Walsall, who have a rare week off with no League or Cup games scheduled before next week's tie, defeated a Burton Albion XI 1-0 at St George's Park on Monday afternoon, a Kieron Morris 89th minute screamer enough to secure the victory.

Whilst on Thursday afternoon a Saddlers XI will tackle a Manchester City side likely to be made up of several members of Patrick Vieira's Elite Development Squad.

Meanwhile JPT opponents Preston North End have a League tie against Yeovil Town on Tuesday, and an FA Cup Fourth Round fixture against Sheffield United on Saturday.
