Walsall manager Dean Smith has spoken to the press ahead of this weekend's Sky Bet League 1 clash with Colchester United, and has offered an update on the injury status of midfielder, Sam Mantom.
Smith revealed that last years 'Player of the Season' is to meet with a surgeon, and may require more surgery, he told Saddlers.co.uk; "On the injury front, it's just Sam Mantom who will be missing. He is seeing a surgeon on Friday as we look to get to the bottom of the knee problem that has laid him low this season. It's been a frustrating situation but one that we are working hard to resolve."
Smith also spoke to the written press, and offered slightly more information, telling the Express & Star; “He will be going to see the surgeon tomorrow to have a chat with him to see if he needs to go in. It has been a long running saga which has not been nice for him our ourselves.”
“He is still feeling it a little bit. For a period it was okay and then he is feeling something now so it is a case of going to see the surgeon.
“I’m sure the surgeon may recommend a scope to be put in to have a look, which was always a last resort.”
