Walsall Football Club reserve goalkeeper Liam Roberts has this afternoon completed a loan move to Vanarama Premier side, Southport.
20-year-old Roberts, a product of the Walsall Centre of Excellence, re-joined Walsall in the summer after initially being released just weeks before, and has had spells on loan with local Evo-Stik Northern Premier League - Premier Division side Rushall Olympic, and Evo-Stik League Northern Premier League - First Division South side, Rainworth Miners Welfare.
Liam will link up with fellow Saddler Amadou Bakayoko who is currently enjoying his second month on loan with the Sandgrounders, and will hope to continue his progress with more first-team football.
Walsall manager Dean Smith spoke to saddlers.co.uk about today's news, and backed Liam to do well at the Merseyside club, he said; “This is a step up for Liam. We've had some positive reports from his time at Rainworth and hopefully he can do well at Southport.
“It’s an opportunity for him to play regular games at a good level and also link up with Amadou Bakayoko who is doing well there.
“We’ll be monitoring their progress closely and hopefully everyone will benefit from this arrangement.”
