Former Walsall Football Club Player/Coach Dean Holden has spoken to the local press about his decision to leave the club for a coaching role at Oldham Athletic, and has praised Dean Smith and Richard O'Kelly for their support.
Speaking to the Express & Star, Dean said: “It was a massive decision for me, the biggest I have ever had to make in my career. Sometimes in life you are presented with an opportunity.
“I have been playing football all my life, that is all I have ever wanted to do. But the chance to become first-team coach at a League One club was just too good an opportunity to turn down.
“At the same time, it is hard to leave Walsall. I may not have played every game but I have loved every minute.
“In Dean Smith and Richard O’Kelly, I could not have asked for two better people to speak to during a time like this. They have been totally honest with me.
“I made my decision and went in on Thursday thinking I would just sign a few papers and that would be that. I ended up training one last time. It was quite emotional.”
