Speaking to the Express & Star, “It was my decision and I spoke to Andy on Sunday, he fully understands it. After Saturday’s game, I had to work out what was going to be best for us moving forward.
“We were paying a lot of money out for Andy Butler and we would have to miss him for games in the next month, like in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy when Sheffield United would not let us play him.
“If I could have got him for cheaper then I would have kept him, but the fact is all our defenders are currently fit and generally we have been quite solid at the back this season.
“What we have not done is score goals, particularly away from home and I think Michael coming in gives us a bit more bite going forward.”
