LATEST: WALSALL MAKE BUTLER ENQUIRY

According to reports in the Walsall Advertiser, Walsall Football Club have made a loan enquiry for a former club captain and player of the season.
According to reports in the Walsall Advertiser, Walsall Football Club have made a loan enquiry for a former club captain and two-time player of the season.

Reports suggest the Saddlers manager Dean Smith has spoken to Sheffield United manager Nigel Clough regarding a possible loan return for Andy Butler, who turned down a new Walsall deal in the summer, in favour of a switch to the Blades.

Butler has found himself out-of-favour with Clough following a training ground disagreement, and is said to be keen on a move away, at least in the short-term.

The Advertiser suggest that the only real issue is the level of wages Walsall would be expected to pay to bring their former captain back to the club.

The 'Loan Window', which allows clubs in the Football League to sign players on-loan for a minimum of 28 days, re-opens on Tuesday 9th September.
