BREAKING: BUTLER SEALS WALSALL RETURN

Walsall Football Club have today completed the one-month emergency loan signing of former club captain and two-time Player of the Season Andy Butler, from fellow Sky Bet League One side Sheffield United.

Doncaster-born Butler joined the Blades from Walsall last summer after turning down an extension clause in his existing deal, as-well as a fresh contract offer from the club, ending his near four-year and 160+ game association with the club.

However the 30-year-old defender has found his chances limited, and is believed to be unsettled in the area.

Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield yesterday afternoon, Sheffield United manager Nigel Clough said: “We have had one or two enquiries for Andy Butler to go out and get some games which is fine so we will try and get Andy some games.

“At his age he needs to be out there playing games and hopefully within the next few days to a week, that might happen.

“There’s a couple of League One clubs so we will try and get something sorted for him.”

When asked why it hadn't worked out for Butler in South Yorkshire, Clough added: “People settle differently, some do and some don’t, so it is a difficult one to say why it is has just not quite happened.

“It has been the emergence of Harrison more than anything who has played beyond expectation.”

It is understood that Walsall were always leading the race for his signature, with fellow League One outfit Crewe Alexandra also expressing an interest.
