Earlier this morning Walsall Football Club manager Dean Smith spoke to the press ahead of Saturday's opening Sky Bet League One fixture, away to Port Vale.
Amongst the many many topics discussed, including the release of trialist Danny Webber, Smith revealed the reasons behind the delay in signing trialist Mathieu Manset.
Smith admitted that part of the delay in the Manset deal is that the player and his agent are seeking a two year contract, whilst the club are hoping to agree a one -year deal with an option (in the clubs favour) for an extension of a further year, based on appearances.
Smith also has concerns over the fitness level Mathieu could achieve after struggling over the past few seasons.
24-year-old former Hereford United, Reading and Antwerp striker Manset joined the Saddlers on trial late last month and made a goal-scoring debut against Leicester City, a performance which earned him much praise from both press and supporters.
Dean remains hopeful of agreeing terms with the French striker, who returned home last week.
