Walsall manager Dean Smith has spoken about Tuesday evening's Capital One Cup exit at the hands of Premier League side Crystal Palace, whilst keen to point out the positives, he acknowledged that overall his side did not do enough to earn a victory.
Speaking to saddlers.co.uk, Smith said: "I was disappointed with our performance in the first half and the manner in which we conceded the goals. We switched off for the first, gave the ball away for the second and their lad showed a bit of class for the third.
"We'll take it as a compliment that they sat behind the ball and looked to counter-attack us, but at the same time we've got to be able to take responsibility and find ways in which to trouble them.
"We spoke at half-time about the need for us to get crosses in behind them and win the second balls, and I felt that we did that, albeit too late.
"We've got to be able to get round teams and we didn't do it enough on this occasion."
