Walsall Football Club have today released veteran trialist Danny Webber after more than a month with the club.
33-year-old Manchester-born Webber joined the club on trial for the first week of pre-season training and made his first appearance in the 'behind closed doors' match against Wigan Athletic, he followed it up with appearances against Alfreton Town, Leamington, Leicester City and Aston Villa.
Walsall manager spoke to the Express & Star about today's news, he said: "I met up with Danny yesterday and told him there was no contract for him. He has come in and is a really good lad, a great character around the place with a lot of experience and he really knows how to play the game and link it up.
“Unfortunately, it did not come with the currency of goals in his performances. I spoke to him about that and I wish him well. He came in and gave it his best shot and it just wasn't to be.”
It is now understood Walsall manager Dean Smith is set to meet with former Chelsea midfielder Billy Clifford later today, in a bid to decide his future.
