This afternoon (Saturday) former Walsall Football Club captain and two-time Player of the Season - Andy Butler is the subject of much transfer speculation, following an apparent bust-up with Blades boss Nigel Clough.
Reports suggest that Butler, who made a goal scoring debut for new side Sheffield United during their midweek Capital One Cup win over Mansfield Town, has had a training ground bust-up with Blades boss Nigel Clough and has been subsequently removed from the first-team.
30-year-old Butler was left out of the Blades' travelling party for their Sky Bet League One match with Coventry City on Saturday, and was spotted in attendance at the Saddlers' home tie with Bradford City.
Further reports from those close to Sheffield United suggest possible resentment between Butler and Clough over the recent departure of fellow defender Harry Maguire to Hull City, with Butler unhappy at still not being considered first-choice in the team.
Following the Blades' 1-0 defeat to Coventry, manager Nigel Clough spoke to the press and confirmed that Butler was not part of the travelling squad and had not been with the rest of the team in the hotel overnight. He said: "We wouldn't ask a senior player who's not involved to travel and stay in a hotel".
Following the Saddlers 0-0 draw with the Bantams Butler chatted and took pictures with fans, but is believed to have dodged any questions over his future.
Understandably, Butler is now the subject of much speculation over his future, with a potential short-term loan return to Walsall being touted.
