Walsall Football Club manager Dean Smith last night spoke to the press about striker Mathieu Manset who is currently on trial with the club.
24-year-old Metz born Manset, who was listed as 'trialist' and announced as 'Walsall Player Number Two', joined the Saddlers this week and made a goal-scoring debut against Leicester City on Wednesday evening, a performance which earned him much praise from both press and supporters.
Speaking to the Express & Star, Smith said; “He’s a trialist, he is one we are having a look at. It is an opportunity for him. He did well, he didn’t do himself any harm.
"The good thing about it is he is nowhere near the fitness levels we want at the minute but he did well.
“He is with us with the week and we will speak to him and his representatives.”
In January Mathieu signed an 18-month contract with Belgian second tier side Royal Antwerp, and made around ten appearances for the side, however following the conclusion of the 2013/14 season Mathieu's contract was cancelled by mutual consent.
