Walsall manager Dean Smith has spoken about the current transfer activity at the club, and has outlined the positions that need to be addressed as we head toward the 2014/15 Sky Bet League One season...
Speaking to the Walsall Advertiser, Smith said: "We are in advanced talks with a couple of players at the moment and I have had a lot of conversations with players and agents these past few weeks so things have been bubbling along.
"We're looking at bringing in a goalkeeper plus a central defender with Andy Butler leaving. We also need a couple of wide players and two or three new faces up front, so we know what we are looking for.
"For each position you are looking to fill, you probably have a list of five or six players – the top one or two, if you are not able to get something sorted quickly, they are the ones who are attractive to others so they can get snapped up.
"But the key, as always in this job, is to be patient. A lot of players will think they are going to sign for Barcelona and then slowly they start crossing off the clubs and we become a more attractive proposition."
