Walsall Football Club defender Ben Purkiss has today looked ahead to the coming season, and spoken of his hope that the Saddlers can make an early impact whilst other sides are settling in...
Speaking to saddlers.co.uk, Ben said: “I don’t think that the teams coming down from The Championship are as strong as those going up. As far as the teams that are coming up from League Two, it will be interesting to see how they adapt to life at this level.
“Some of them have played in League One in recent years, but as Rotherham United have proved, if you have the finances and spend them correctly then anything is possible.
“On that basis, Fleetwood Town, will be hoping to make an impact in what is their first-ever season at this level and I expect them to give a good account of themselves.
“One thing is certain, League One is going to be competitive. If a team starts well and builds up some early momentum then there are opportunities there.
“Hopefully we will be one of those teams that can make an impact from the start.”
