Walsall Football Club could be set for further contract disappointment as rumours suggest left-back Andy Taylor is close to agreeing a deal with the Saddlers' Sky Bet League One rivals, Sheffield United.

Last week Walsall manager Dean Smith spoke to the Express & Star about ongoing negotiations between he and Taylor, and of his hope that a deal could be done, Smith said: “We're still talking and it’s a case of us putting together the financial package that is acceptable to Andy.”

29-year-old Blackburn born Taylor had a three-year spell with the Blades between 2009 and 2012, where he only managed 39 first-team appearances after suffering an injury on Boxing Day 2010, which ultimately kept him sidelined for fourteen months.

Andy joined Walsall during the summer of 2012, and penned a one-year deal following a brief trial spell.

Following several solid performances, this deal was followed up with an improved 18-month contract in late January 2013.

Whilst this is by no means a done deal, it could serve as further disappointment following so-called 'plan-b' Mat Sadler's recent free transfer to Rotherham United.
