SAWYERS PENS NEW SADDLERS CONTRACT

Walsall Football Club have today announced that Romaine Sawyers has penned a new deal, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2016.

Walsall Football Club have today announced that Romaine Sawyers has penned a new deal, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2016.

22-year-old Saint Kitts and Nevis international Sawyers came through the ranks at The Hawthorns after joining the club as an apprentice in 2004, and made his first-team debut during the final game of the 2008/09 campaign.

Coming through the ranks at The Hawthorns, he signed his first professional contract in the summer of 2009, but missed much of the following season with a knee injury. After his recovery he found himself on the fringes of the first-team and spent time on loan with Port Vale, Shrewsbury Town and Walsall before making the permanent switch to The Saddlers last summer.

Walsall manager Dean Smith spoke to Saddlers.co.uk about today's deal; “It’s been an extremely productive season for Romaine. I believe that he is a player with a lot of potential who has a big role to play in the future of this club. This has been his first full season in senior football and he has certainly showed enough to warrant this new deal.

“It’s been a long, hard season for him and he has made good progress. I expect him to continue going from strength-to-strength and I am delighted that he has signed this new deal.”
