Walsall Football Club goalkeeper Richard O'Donnell has this afternoon spoken about the impending departure of club captain Andy Butler, who has decided not to activate a clause in his current contract which would have kept him at the club for another season.

Speaking to the Walsall Advertiser, O'Donnell said: "It's never nice to lose your captain and Andy has been a big player on and off the pitch, but it's not the be-all and end-all. He's left for personal reasons and no-one can blame him. He's a good friend of mine, everyone wishes him well and I'm sure he will do really well wherever he goes.

"But it's a case of moving on – we've played without him a couple of times last season and we know we can cope without him. He will be missed, no doubt about it, but the gaffer has already got people in mind to replace him. It's different for every player. For me, when I signed, I wanted that bit of security and also to give something back to the club for the chance they had given me. The extension was right for both parties."
