Walsall Football Club manager Dean Smith has today spoken of his wish for club captain Andy Butler to remain at the club beyond the end of his contract in the summer.
30 year-old, Doncaster born Butler originally joined Walsall in November 2010 after he left Huddersfield Town earlier in the year.
He has gone on to establish himself as a fan-favourite, including winning the Player of the Season in 2010/11 and 2011/12.
Smith told the Express & Star; "Andy’s contract is up at the end of the season but he has an option to extend (ed: for another year) should he wish to.
"I have already spoken to Andy and talks will be ongoing. There is no time scale at all. His contract is up at the end of the season and he has got that option."
