SMITH REFLECTS ON DERBY DAY DEFEAT

Following Saturday afternoon's disappointing 3-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Black Country Derby, Walsall manager spoke to the press;

Smith told BBC WM and Saddlers.co.uk; "I think the scoreline is very harsh on us - I don't think we any way deserved to lose 3-0. It just showed the quality that Kenny's got. The pleasing thing for me is we didn't throw the towel in, we kept going.

"I felt that we more than matched them, the difference was in the penalty areas. It was a freak second goal for them early in the second half, but the pleasing thing for me was that my players kept going and didn't let their heads drop.

"We had a couple of chances after that with headers from Febian Brandy and, to be fair, we played some decent football at times. We kept trying to do the right things and Troy Hewitt came into the side and led the line well.

"Our performances have been decent, it's just the results that haven't been coming with them and sometimes that happens. The important game now is against Crewe and going and getting a result in that and then following up and getting a performance in and hopefully getting the right result."
