SADDLERS TO CONSIDER SAFE STANDING

Walsall Football Club, along with the 71 other Football League sides, have been asked to consider the positives and negatives of so called 'Safe Standing' areas being installed in football stadiums across the country.
Walsall Football Club, along with the 71 other Football League sides, have been asked to consider the positives and negatives of so called 'Safe Standing' areas being installed in football stadiums across the country.

As part of the consultation process, each club has been sent a set of documents to look through ahead of a debate, that will be held in February.

In June the Football League agreed to reconsider the idea.

The Football League has now been in contact with the Football Supporters’ Federation (FSF), which for many years has campaigned for safe standing.

Malcolm Clarke, chairman of the FSF, said: “We welcome this decision by the Football League and it is a step forward in bringing safe standing back into football stadiums in the UK.

“You have only to look at Germany and the passion they have for standing at matches. They have a fantastic safety record there too and we hope clubs in the West Midlands support it.

“In Britain you have tens of thousands of people standing at football matches in seated areas so it makes perfect sense to bring in a safe standing area which can prevent injuries in that situation.”
