Walsall manager Dean Smith has indicated that the club are close to a loan agreement with a so-far un-named club, for an unknown player, still believed to be a striker.
Smith told the Express & Star; "We still have a couple of calls out there. We are talking with one club at the moment and we are hoping to have a decision certainly by the end of the weekend.
He continued; "It will be on loan. We are looking at bringing a couple in. But also the loan window opens again after. We are looking at a standard loan which will take it till the end of the season but when the loan window opens, we can look again."
Smith also revealed the club enquired about former Tranmere Rovers, Rochdale, Scunthorpe United and Barnsley striker Chris Dagnall, but were put-off by his wage demands, Smith said, "I spoke to his agent but he certainly wasn't in our price range. That is the most important thing for us. The first thing we do when searching for players is find out their background in terms of their character.
"The big thing we have here is the camaraderie and team spirit, the togetherness that has been created not just by myself but by the players as well. You don’t want to upset that so you have to get the right person to come into the group. That is what makes the search a lot harder as well.
"We have funds available but I won’t pay over the odds."
Meanwhile, rumoured target Chris Iwelumo has joined Scottish side St Johnstone until the end of the season.
