Walsall manager Dean Smith has confirmed the club plan to keep tabs on star striker Jem Gordon, The 19-year-old, who currently plays for Phoenix 1976 in the Trinidad and Tobago Super League, was one of several local players handed trials by the Saddlers during their tour.

Jem notched three goals, including a brace during the dramatic 2-3 comeback win over a Pro League XI on Sunday, and produced another impressive performance during last nights 1-1 draw against hosts Central FC at the Haseley Crawford Stadium.

Speaking to the Express & Star, Smith said: "Jem has done OK. He still needs a lot of work, which he will get over in Trinidad. I don’t think he is ready for league football but he is one we will certainly keep an eye on.

"When you look to bring players over there are many things you have to consider including work permits. But he is definitely someone we will monitor."
