Walsall manager Dean Smith has said he remains hopeful of retaining forward Craig Westcarr, despite the 28-year-old rejecting the clubs' initial offer at the end of last season.
Speaking to the Express & Star, Smith said; "I made him an offer at the end of last season, which he declined. He wanted to keep his options open. His contract expired on May 1, so he has not been paid for the summer. I've since spoken to him and will speak to him over the next few days.”
Smith continued “He’s a likeable lad. He can certainly lead the line and he can play off the front man – he’s got a few strings to his bow."
Both manager and player plan to meet over the coming days to discuss their options.
