Former Walsall defender Richard Taundry has spoken of his disappointment at being released by his hometown club.
Speaking to the Express & Star, the 24-year old, who made 18 appearances this season, said, "I have been at the club a long time and it’s a bitter pill to swallow, but I will have to get over it. I was kind of expecting it with the way the season has gone for me, since the Coventry game – it was always on my mind that I wouldn't be staying."
He continued, "Maybe it could be a good thing for me and my career to start afresh. I put as much effort into things as the other lads but for whatever reason or another, things just didn't come off for me. It’s been a build-up of different things and maybe this is a blessing in disguise. I’m not going to go into what the manager told me but we shook hands and parted on good terms."
It is the second time in two seasons the locally born right-back has faced the prospect of looking for a new club after originally being released last June following unsuccessful contract negotiations, only to ink a new one-year deal just weeks later.
Taundry joined the club through it's Centre of Excellence and progressed through the ranks to make his first-team debut in November 2007 under then manager Richard Money and has gone on to make over 150 club appearances.
