Walsall manager Dean Smith has today spoken of the reasons behind the surprise release of Saddlers starlet George Bowerman.
Speaking to the Express & Star, Dean said, "I spent a lot of time and energy trying to get the best out of George this season."
He continued, “For whatever reason it did not work, I could not get what I wanted out of him and I think, if I’m being honest, that would have been the case next season. We sat down and talked and he agrees with me he needs a fresh start."
Smith also confirmed the club had an option to extend Bowerman's contract by another year but decided against taking it.
Meanwhile Bowerman has taken to Twitter to thank the fans for their support over the last six years, saying, "Just like to thank everyone at Walsall FC the last 6 years have been a pleasure, time for a new start excited scared but can't wait!"
