Walsall Football Club are looking to appoint a new assistant manager this week. This follows the disappointing departure of Richard O'Kelly to Bristol City.
It is believed there are four serious candidates for the position and preliminary talks have been held with atleast two of them.
Former Saddler Stuart Watkiss is NOT believed to be in the running.
Walsall manager Dean Smith has talked of his shock at the 'huge level of interest' in the vacant position. Speaking to the Express and Star Smith admitted "There are a few who have jumped out who I wasn’t aware would be interested in the position. I have been surprised by one or two names but we’ll make a decision this week. I’ve met with a couple and we’ll see where we’ll go. I’ve got no favourites, I’ve got people to speak to. We’ll pick wisely and look to do it early this week, before Oldham.”
