Well, as this terrible period of doom and gloom continues, ever game gains more and more significance as its beginning to look like points may once again be in short supply this season. Unfortunately, Saturday those points would have to come from high flying Crawley Town.

Our winless run has now been extended to 12 games, after an utterly embarrassing defeat to non league Lincoln on Tuesday, in which we needed late goals first to take it to extra time, and then to avoid losing by 2. However the squad will be boosted by today’s announcement that we have signed Irish under-19 international goalkeeper Aaron McCarey from Wolves on an initial months loan, one can only this what that will do to the confidence of David Grof.

Crawley themselves are currently enjoying their first ever year at this high level, and are sitting in fourth position in the league, just two points from automatic promotion. However, they are 3 without a win or a clean sheet, so a glimmer of hope at least. Last season’s players’ player of the season Mat Sadler is expected to start in a game Dean Smith desperately needs something from to keep the fans last bits of patience intact with a visit to top place Tranmere up afterwards.

This is the first ever meeting between the two sides, so nothing there that may give us an indication to how it will go, but with 13 league places separating us, amassing to 11 points and +10 better goal difference, we can safely say it’s going to be a tough one! Who knows though, maybe we can snatch something in that typically Walsall way of surprising us! Good luck to the boys, and all those like me who are travelling down tomorrow.

Prediction: Crawley Town 1 Walsall 1
